Workforce Solutions Names ACG 2011 Employer Of The Year

Lubbock, Texas – (February 22, 2011) - April 13, 2011American Cotton Growers (ACG), a division of Plains Cotton Cooperative Association, received the South Plains Workforce Solutions’ 2011 Employer of the Year award during a ceremony held in Lubbock on April 13. The annual event was designed in 2001 in conjunction with the South Plains Job Fair to recognize employers that practice innovative workforce strategies.

ACG employs more than 500 people in Littlefield making it the largest employer in Lamb County. The company was recognized for the high value it places on its workforce and for providing its employees with a variety of benefits, an employee advancement program that encourages promotions from within, and other incentives.

ACG also offers an English or Spanish as a Second Language course which is available to all employees to increase the flow of communication. ACG also partners with Workforce Solutions in the Texas Back to Work program to hire employees who receive unemployment benefits which helps decrease the number of unemployment insurance beneficiaries in the region.

Winners of other Workforce Solutions awards were: Exemplary Youth Zone Participant, O’Shea Thompson of Plainview High School; Exemplary Child Care Provider Award, Starting Small Child Development Center of Lubbock; Legacy Volunteer Award, Adele Youngren, Workforce Solutions Board Member representing Lubbock County; Current Workforce Award, Birdsong Peanuts of Brownfield; Future Workforce Award, XFAB Texas, Inc. of Lubbock; Industry Sector Outreach Award, The PROS Company of Lubbock; Service to Community Award, Convergys Corporation of Lubbock; and Service to Workers Award, Shearer’s Foods of Lubbock.
